Saturday 7 May 2016 - Day 10

Villatuerta to Los Arcos - 13.5km + taxi 12.2

Woke to rain, so rainwear on. Left Casa Magica after a latish start... very comfy bed and good sleep. Still happily walking with Becky. Had a look at the Church of the Assumption before heading off via an industrial area towards Estella where we stopped for a great breakfast.

Not far out of Estella the famous wine fountain 'Fuentes del Vino' was a must see. We took a little of the wine each. I think we were lucky, as other pilgrims later told us that the fountain was either closed or there was no wine, when they passed. Also stopped for a look at the nearby Monasterio de Irache.

Lots of natural paths through this section, still in the rain. Becky has an amazing set up to attach a super lightweight umbrella to her pack strap...a great idea. She and her husband own an outdoor shop called Pack and Paddle, so she knows her gear.

Approaching Villamayor de Monjardin, we stopped to admire a 13thC Fountain of the Moors 'Fuente de Los Moros'. It was beautiful.

Intended to stay in Villamayor but no room. Had a quick lunch of roll, sausage and cheese before sharing a taxi with two German girls. Headed into Los Arcos to Casa Abuela, where we shared a room with Willie and Astrid, a delightful South African couple and a Danish father and son. Quite a small room, but considerate room mates.

Had a visit to the AMAZING and MAGNIFICENT Iglesia de Santa Maria de los Arcos. It was stunning and we spent about an hour exploring it.

A fun meal in a cafe where we caught up with our Aussie mates, Mike and Brent. Lots of laughs.
