Monday 9 May 2016 - Day 12

Logrono to Najera - bus, no walking

Becky and I a wonderful night, excellent chicken salad dinner....yeah, vegies...and ice-cream dessert. Also fit in a cathedral visit and scored a stamp for our credentials. Our room was really comfortable but there was a bit of noise on the street for most of the night. Spanish cities are SO alive.

Decided that today was to be a rest day, after extreme agony yesterday. After chatting yesterday afternoon with Judith and Helen, two ladies from Noosa, I arranged to catch the bus with Judith, who has a lower back injury and is unable to walk. Becky decided to join us. Was sad to leave our lovely room. It's the one on the first floor above the door.

After most pilgrims had headed off Becky, Judith and I headed to the Planet Agua shop to check out shoes. It had a good range including some fabulous colours in Keen Venice sandals... if only I wasn't carrying a pack! Tried on numerous shoes and bought some Asics trail walkers. ..felt much more cushioned than my Merrell Moabs...not difficult, as they've felt like I've been walking on slabs of stone.

We made our way to the bus stop and had the best fun on our ride, with a Spanish lady, with no English, who shared some chopped apple with us and then hugged each of us before seeing us on our way. Wonder if they sell feet?

Najera has impressive red cliffs that loom over the town. After a bit of confusion about where we were staying, we crossed the racing Rio Najerilla into the older part of town.

We found our accommodation, Nido de Ciguena in a very old and slightly seedy part of town . Lovely place and delightful young man welcomed us, and for €5 he washed and dried my clothes . Becky, Judith and I had a delicious tapas lunch before Becky and I headed across the river the check out the shops. Imagine my delight to see Elvira walking along the road. I burst into tears when I saw her and we had a joyous reunion. Luckily, she managed to get a spot at our albergue.

A quiet afternoon of catching up and then dinner with Mike and Brent, our favourite guys from Perth...we keep running into into them. Tried the local Rioja vino tinto...nice. Great view from our front door.

Hoping to walk again tomorrow. Keen to try out my new shoes.
